Mentioned earlier on boards Alan Menken and a handful of Broadway actors went into a studio to record the score for The Little Mermaid Broadway Musical opening next year. Disney Duster at Ultimate Disney’s forums put them up for listing and download. The show will include the original songs from the movie plus 11 new songs. Examples are a song for Scuttle, King Triton, Flotsam and Jetsam and Prince Eric.
Though these aren’t the final preformers they sound fantastic specially Ariel, Eric and Ursula. The sea witch sounds like a Glenn “Cruella deVill” Close. Amazing! As I listened to the known and new songs they get better and better, high point are Her Voice and Poor Unfortunate Souls. The girl who does Ariels part sounds so much like Jodi Benson it’s scary.

Next: Alan Menken is working on new songs for the planned Broadway version of Aladdin set to open for the 2008/2009 season. To Be Free from the Disneypark show is said to be included. I bet Jasmine will have one more song. Like in BatN and now Mermaid the father character is likely to have a song. And of course a song for Jafar must be written, maybe Alan will use some of the old material dropped for the movie. Just speculating.
