For everyone who wants to read more about Rajah I own a couple of books I like to recommend.
I mentioned A Pet From a Princess earlier this week because it’s one of the view books where Rajah out shines his mistress and Tales From Agrabah the true story of how Jasmine meet Rajah.

The plot starts when Jasmine is sad and lonely, locked up in the palace with no one to talk to too. She needs a friend. The sultan notices that and gives her a tiger cub she named “ Rajah.” Now the princess has a pet to care for and a friend to keep her company.

The second title is Tales From Agrabah a real classic and should be in every Aladdin fan’s book collection. After a decade I got myself a copy last year and scanned some of the wonderful artwork. The book tells the tales of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine growing up from children and meeting their animal friends to the teenagers we meet in the first film and their initial meeting on the market.

The first chapter “A Gift From The Stars” describes how young Jasmine got Rajah and the Sultan’s reaction having a tiger roaming around the palace. Just like in Pet Jasmine is lonely after the death of her mother, a busy father and without a real friend. This time Rajah was had been part of her life as the star tiger. A story her mother told her when Jasmine was even younger then now. Later that night the young girl wakes up from a sound in her bedroom. A real tiger cub is setting at the edge of her bed. She took the kitten with her to bed until the she woke up the next morning.

Then the chapter goes into Jasmine having to hide her new friend until she can tell her father about him. Rajah had escaped a traveling fair and should be returned to its rightful owner. Finally after a while Rajah makes his appearance at an official dinner scarring everyone away but Jasmine and the Sultan. She then convinces her father to keep little Rajah as pet but mostly as a friend and later guardian against annoying suitors, royals with big egos and poor guys pretending to be royalty.
A Gift From The Stars is wonderfully written it with humor and a big “ aw how cute” rating.

Pet for a Princess is available at Amazon and several other online shops it might be in your local bookstores too.
Tales From Agrabah is a little harder to get by since it’s been out of print for over a decade. Again you want to try Amazon this time for a used copy but I got mine from EBay the book might also be in your local library in the children’s book section.
