Simba, Belle, Quasimodo, Tarzan, Mary, Ariel, Aladdin Broadway?

The old rumor of Disney having a musical adaptation of Aladdin in the pipeline surfaced again.

mermaid1990 wrote on Aladdin’s IMDB board

“I heard that Aladdin is coming to Broadway around 2009, and it’s been confirmed that it is the next Disney musical coming to Broadway!”

On jacobsnchz14 claims on the 11th to have read on a website that:
An ‘Aladdin’ and Alan Menken blog has stated:

“Alan Menken is working on new songs for the planned Broadway version of Aladdin set to open for the 2008/2009 season. The song, “To Be Free” from the Disney Land show is said to be included. Jasmine will probably have one more song. A song for Jafar is also rumored to be written, also Menken is said to be using old material dropped from the film to use for the musical.”

Another website has confirmed a book writer:

“Well, as part of the advance publicity for ‘The Wedding Singer’ (the musical) it was revealed that Chad Beguelin — the talented young author who’s wrote both the book & the lyrics for ‘Wedding’ — has been hired by Disney Theatrical to write the book for a proposed Broadway version of ‘Aladdin.’

So come the 2008-2009, it may not be just Ariel and Mary Poppins on the stage, thrilling theater-goers. Aladdin and his magic flying carpet may soon be zooming out over the orchestra pit.”

And before you know it there a four pages devoted to this rumor, because as long as nothing is announced from Disney Theatrical products it’s nothing more than that. I feel flattered that Streetrat is mentioned though -:)
Speculation about who fits the roles of Al and Jas ran from people I never heard of before to Arabs/Chinese/blonde or black Jasmines to Sierra Boggess who portrays Ariel in the musical right now to Lea herself as the feisty princess of Agrabah(YES!!!).

Psstt… Jonathan for Jafar!

The Best Of Lea Salonga

When Aladdin Central regular Amadou asked a recording of the Lea Salonga / Brad Kane song “We Could Be In Love” I felt the urge to devote a post to her work. In her career as singer, voice and theatrical actress Lea Salonga’s voice is heard on almost 20 albums, most of which aren’t even sold here in the Netherlands. Lucky for me some of my favorite songs are on YouTube.

Personal Favorite #1 True Colors

Personal Favorite #2 You Must Love Me

Personal Favorite #3 (shared place) Somewhere Over The Rainbow & Don’t Cry For Me Argentina

Not favorites per se but defiantly worth mentioning.
