Aladdin returns to DVD as a Musical Masterpieces Edition

Spotted by Ultimate Disney board members sunday was a rating at BBFC for an Aladdin release to DVD. Yesterday someone spotted the disc at play.com and the British Amazon. It seems Disney dropped Aladdin from the platinum line and now releases it as a Musical Masterpieces Edition with extra special features Lyric Book, Music Modes, Downloadable song. The trilogy is being re-released also with 3 discs looking like the special features bonus disc is dropped.
This new version with updated and much prettier cover hits stores in the UK on July 7.

I’m still not convinced they kicked it out the platinum edition yet, especially not with it just going back in the vault earlier this year over here in America. If it wasn’t selling that much, they would have shove that back in the vault a long time ago never to be seen again. It’s not like they went through with that huge marketing plan they had in stores for the DVD and had to make up for any lost money, so that’s really strange. Not to mention surely we would have heard something about it by now, if not the dropping of Aladdin but at least the adding of Alice considering how popular it has grown to be. Maybe internationally the DVD was dropped, but I’m not sure about here. I think it’s just some random edition they’re releasing to hold people over who didn’t get it the first time and are demanding so because if the platinum edition supposedly didn’t sell as much, then why downgrade its status in a collection where the criteria to be in it was based on completely different requirements, and go through that much trouble to release ANOTHER type of DVD of what didn’t sell as much? Most of us are buying the DVDs for the extras, not the film itself, if Sleeping Beauty’s re-release and upgrade to Platinum in the past few years since its first DVD release shows that any. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
