Over at the LiveJournal community Agrabah arielstreasures shared unique sketches of Princess Jasmine she scanned from a French making of Disney heroines back she got from her libary. Fans of Meg and Belle should keep an eye out, arielstreasures hopes to scan their sketches too.

The drawings show Jasmine using her body and looks to get what she wants. First the scene on her balcony she makes a move to the unexpecting Aladdin preteding to be impressed by his babble. And later she comes on to Jafar to disctact him.

Rajah Christmas Tree Ornament

December 25th, 2009

Did you know a Rajah Christmas Ornament existed? I didn’t either and now it’s mine (in two days I hope). It’s Christmas Eve and I realized I haven’t expended my Aladdin ornament collection in 2009. I have a few Kot wedding ornaments, the genie bee one, the genie lamp Santa hat one, the cute Jasmine with Rajah on carpet ornament and a Magic Carpet ride ornament. Back in ‘07 I said to myself to finally start a Christmas Aladdin ornament collection, something I’ve been meaning to do for a decade or so and then to slowly expend it each year.

The seller doesn’t say much about the figure other then it’s measures but things like when it was made or who made it is nowhere to be found, can anyone help me out?

I see he/she sells a few genie and Aladdin ornaments and even the Sultan and Jafar as ornaments. Plus lots of other classic Disney characters and iconic characters from Pixar like Buzz and Woody and about every movie that followed.

As you might know in an earlier script the peddler would reveal himself to be genie. A demo of Arabian Nights Reprise ended up on Music Behind the Magic, a four cd box with music and songs from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. This set included Proud of Your Boy and various other songs that didn’t make it to final film like Humiliate the Boy and Count on Me all three where on the special edition DVD. A missed opportunity was to include this song with storyboards.

The creators of Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the third and last Aladdin film in where Aladdin meets his long last father Cassim and finally marries Jasmine, liked the song so much they used at the end of the film. This and the marriage scene made me often feel a bit down when I thought that there would be no more Aladdin after this. Al and co made a few cameo appearances and Jasmine got her own little film but it’s not the same.

All Hail Prince Naveen

December 15th, 2009

The Princess and Frog Ross Blocher (Assistant Technical Director) and T. Daniel Hofstedt (character animator) did hilarious parody on Prince Naveen set on Alan Menken’s Prince Ali from the one and only Aladdin. Probably not mend for ears outside the production team though.

Fact is that T. Daniel Hofstedt worked on Aladdin as animator for Gazeem and Prince Achmed. He continued his Disney career by animating on most feature films up till Home on the Range.

Disney Music Lovers is a new LJ community where Disney fans can discusss and share their favorite music by the house of mouse just opened it’s doors this week. Now on itself that’s not that new, there’s been dozens of web communties about Disney music but this one happens to have a really nice Aladdin background from an unknown artist. However as am not an member at LJ I can’t see past the front page.

Disney Music Lovers background

In other LiveJournal news at the Disney Princess community is a good discussion going on about the difference between a Disney princess and a Disney heroine in terms of marketing and the actual characters as they appeared in their movies. I for one would like see a new DH line that includes girls like Megara and the fiesty Esmeralda but also classic Disney girls like Wendy, who would be a good role model being the big sister of two brothers.

Aladdin villians tribute

December 9th, 2009

Trident did a few tributes to the badguys and girls from the Aladdinverse.
Set under Billy Joel’s You May Be Right, great artist by the way, clips from Chaos from the tribute to this crazy all-power cat.

The hilarious Looney Tunes tribute Abis Mal, Aladdin most annoying and funny opponent with his turban obsession.

The to me unknown rockband Trooper hails most of Agrabah’s Enemies using screens capped by myself I have/had stored online somewhere for years.

Disneyland put out a press release unveiling their plans to Pixar-ise the back a bit more by bringing Toy Story – the musical to the Hyperion theatre in Disney’s California Adventure park. The theater has been the home of Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular since 2003 and was overhauled earlier this year I believe. Aladdin fans have till August 15th 2010 to see it.

I believe their is an official video recording for sale on some sites and there’s plenty footage of the various actors who played the leads on Youtube.

Not that I have anything against Pixar, I love their movies, but it saddes me to see a bit of 90’s Disney film magic go. On otherhand Ariel fans will get their own The Little Mermaid ride in 2011.

Jasmine rides against Aladdin in the Disney Princess storybooklet Royal Champions

LiveJournal member rebel princess posted scans of Royal Champions a cute Disney Princess booklet about horses starring Aurora, Ariel and our very own Jasmine. In the story The Desert Race the princess rides her horse Midnight against Aladdin’s steed who is powered by genie magic.
The stories of Aurora and Ariel look cute too and Ariel is human which doesn’t happen that often in Disney Princess merchandise.

You can try to download scans through Rapidshare although I wasn able, the site keeps asking to become a premium user. There are more pics in the replies over at d_princess.

Amazon sells the booklet is for around 10 US dollars. Dutch Bol.com has it for around 15 EURO.

Going Retro: Prince Ali DOS

November 30th, 2009

The PC MS-DOS version of the Virgin Aladdin video game was by far the best of all the  ports to inferior consoles. It had higher resolution, something like 480 x 320, better graphics with more detail, smoother animation some of inbetweener’s that worked on the film contributed to the game a first in video game history and the game had stereo 44 kHz 16-bit sound with a bigger wavetable (pre-recorded music notes) than any of the consoles. Worth noting that at the time, we’re talking early 90’s, the PC was still developing itself into a game system and so things like soundcards weren’t yet integrated into the mainboard like today’s modern systems. Most common where Creative Sound Blaster 2.0 or Pro compatible cards.

Tory described on here LiveJournal blog how lucky she was to be few who got to the exclusive showing of Princess and the Frog on the Disney lot in LA on Thanksgiving. From the reviews I’ve read it looks like Disney finally refound some of their magic back, Princess and the Frog is prasied to stand firm besides the 90’s films. The tomatometer on Rottentomatos rates it 88% with an average rating of 7.1/10.

Anyway after the movie there was an even more exclusive tour throught an exibit full of items uses to make Disney movies from Glen Close’s red dress in 101 Dalmations to Gissele blue dress from Enchanted that and lots of artwork from the animated films. Including, and here comes it, 3 concept art pieces. She als had a meet n’ greet with Jasmine talking about Aladdin giving Rajah a bath all by himself. Sounds like a fun conversation!
