Vistors to Streetrat often request more information and specially pictures of My Best Friend is Jasmine by Lisa Ann Masoli (avaiable through Amazon.com) The book is 32 pages thick in a handy pocketformat so it’s easy to bring along on vacation. The story followes Jenna who, while picking appels from an overhanging apple tree branch, ends up on Rajah’s back. Princess Jasmine invites the poor hungry girl and her sibelings to stay at the royal palace for a while.
I uploaded high resolution images of Jasmine’s various outfits.
Kilala is a Manga, a Japanese comic, character whose a big fan of the Disney princesss in volume 5 she travels to Agrabah and meets up with Princess Jasmine. The Disney girls facial features are “mangasized” meaning their eyes are bigger and expression and exaggerated like it’s common in Manga and Anime.
shisora posed in the LiveJournal community d_princess are set of Jasmine icons taken from that comic.
Deviant artist Spiriftwolf did a fun and very good looking Jasmine/Jafar cross with her wicked Iajah as henchman. The excellent coloring including the light-up scarab compliments the drawing. This is the third in a series the Tiana/Facilier and Ariel/Ursula ones are worth watching too.
Aladdin’s Jafar is guilty of treason, assault & battery and attempting murder, but who’s really counting when the “good guy”, Aladdin, is going around lying about his identity and stealing food from the marketplace (c’mon son, get a job!). The only thing Jafar is really guilty of is being a dreamer, like John Lennon singing Imagine. So he teaches himself the art of hypnosis and through research and careful planning, unlocks Agrabah’s greatest treasure, the genie’s lamp. That’s two lifetime achievements. In the end, ambition gets the best of him when he goes from bubbly sultan’s bald advisor to becoming the most anabolically ripped, planet juggling genie. Win or lose?

Another fine example of what you can do with a standard boring coloring page as inspiration. Made by DeviantArtist Bloodhaunt. Go check out her gallery full of other Disney Princess coloring pages turned into beautiful digital drawings.

In the category ‘what the !@#*&&^’ comes this Jasmine Cirgarette Case Lighter. Besides storing your smokes it can also light your cig’s. The seller also claims it can store your ID.

Not directly Aladdin related but many Disney animators worked on both movies so here’s the trailer of Beauty and the Beast in 3D. No need to take out your 3D glasses though because it’s in classic 2D. I’m blown away by the beautiful and rich colors the ballroom has never looked so beautiful. The Lion King is rumored to be next if successful it’s paving the way for a potential Aladdin 3D conversation in a few years.
Then there’s the radio play re-tel of the movie released in a number of languages in many countries on various media like CD, cassette and I even came across an LP version one day. The play is from Austria in German and has pretty cover art marketing the kind princess and dashing hero.
Strolling off Ebay I came across this rare Aladdin spinoff radio play in German. It’s callled JAGOS RÜCKKEHR and seems to be starring Iago. Although I’m not able to translate the title my gut tells me it’s like Return of Jafar, Iago switches sides from evil henchman to good sidekick.
It’s released on a music casssete or MC which was what MP3 is today a way to have portable music back in the 80′s. The walkman is like the Ipod of the 80′s.
Seems I missed this one last year.
In Jasmine and the Star of Persia Aladdin and Jasmine travel to the far away kingdom once ruled by the kind Queen Dorri who whore the most magnificent purple amethyst after she died the jewel was locked away in a tall tower. Jasmine is determined to see this legendary jewel for herself.
The story is part of Lara Bergen’s Disney Princess: All That Glitters featuring Ariel, Aurora, Cinderella and Jasmine all on a quest to find jewels hence the name.
princealia posted scans in the LiveJournal agrabah community back in May 2009. I’ve taken the liberty to share a few with you here on Streetrat.
Cute Jasmine and Rajah pic that I haven’t seen earlier even though it was added to DA in February. Beautiful colors.
Came across this piece of fanart on DA, the only piece I thought was worth blogging in a while. Seems Jas is slowly losing her populairity among artists. I wonder if it has to do with Disney not putting her prompty with her Disney Princess friends like she used to. I haven’t seen any good DP merchandise let alone anything with Jas in it.
My new favorite moment from A Whole New World. The clouds are beautifully drawn, slightly transparent so that Aladdin and Jasmine’s bodies shine through. Love their expressions of excitement as they swoosh through the night.
I saw Prince of Persia Sand of Time today, certain elements like the prince (Dastan) being quick on his feet and a good sword fighter did remind me of Aladdin. It’s a nice movie, not a really strong story but I liked some characters, Dastan the best. The princess, Tamina was okay but I would’ve liked to see her a better fighter as she’s supposed to be strong and independent. The cinematography looked really beautiful and love the music.
Now let’s see if there’s a sequel by 2012 as people seem to think there’ll be. If there ever will be a live-action remake of Aladdin I can imagine it would look and feel like PoP. In the mean time watch the Prince of Persia trailer set on One Jump Ahead
