I’ve been listing to a >3 hour Disney Piano Medley on the YouTube channel of “kno Disney Piano Channel” these past days. Of course such a medley includes lovely and relaxing renditions of Aladdin’s music. In the first half an hour A Whole New World, Arabian Nights and One Jump Ahead can be heard plus Howard Ashman‘s beautiful Proud of Your Boy. The latter can be listened to in a separate video on kno’s YT channel.
James Monroe Iglehart shows of his singing, dancing & acting talents in previews of Prince Ali and the opening song of the show Arabian Nights. I love the costumes, the choreography and the cast looks like they are having a blast doing it. But I miss the fun and hilarious that the animated Genie had. I mean I haven’t laughed once during either preview.
There very talented young performers from the Artsylum Quarte, piano, violin and bass, preform a wonderful rendition of Arabian Nights, A Friend Like Me, Prince Ali and A Whole New World. The latter was really amazing to listen and enjoy the beautiful composition by Alan Menken. Shame about the background noises though. Also listen to their The Little Mermaid medley, Pocahontas and Mulan preforms at their Youtube account.
As you might know in an earlier script the peddler would reveal himself to be genie. A demo of Arabian Nights Reprise ended up on Music Behind the Magic, a four cd box with music and songs from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. This set included Proud of Your Boy and various other songs that didn’t make it to final film like Humiliate the Boy and Count on Me all three where on the special edition DVD. A missed opportunity was to include this song with storyboards.
The creators of Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the third and last Aladdin film in where Aladdin meets his long last father Cassim and finally marries Jasmine, liked the song so much they used at the end of the film. This and the marriage scene made me often feel a bit down when I thought that there would be no more Aladdin after this. Al and co made a few cameo appearances and Jasmine got her own little film but it’s not the same.
Broadwayworld.com reports the death of singer, actor who lost a battle against cancer. We know Bruce as the singing voice of the Peddler preforming “Arabian Nights” He could also be heard in “Beauty and the Beast” and was a broadway beast for many years playing in shows like Fiddler On The Roof, Oliver!, The Fantasticks, Cogsworth in the Beauty and the Beast musical Alfred P. Doolittle in “My Fair Lady.
But his greatest Broadway came from starring 4 years in the Gershwin musical “Crazy for You”
