Prince Ali in Catchy Retro 16-bit version

Here’s a reminder that the best video game based on Disney’s Aladdin came from Virgin on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Who can’t resist tapping along with Prince Ali (Agrabah Market level), One Jump Ahead (Agrabah Rooftops level) Arabian Nights (Sultan’s Dungon level) A Whole New World (ending and menu) and Friend Like Me is, naturellym played during the Inside the Lamp level. Actually I prefer the SNES version of A Whole New World over the Genesis one mostly because Capcom shows the magic carpet ride while Virgin only has Aladdin kissing Jasmine which was animated very smoothly just like the rest of the game.
For those wondering, there are ways to download music from Youtube. I used Free YouTube to MP3 Converter to get some instrumentals from my Youtube favorite list.

bootleg Genesis video game: Super Aladdin

CrashManEXE, reviewed over 75 pirate/bootleg games for NES, SNES and Genesis game consoles, posted in-game footage from Super Aladdin. A bootleg port from the Aladdin Genesis version. As you see the visuals are awful which is an understatemend. Both animation and sound effects are curious as well.
The only ‘good’ thing about this abination is Alan Menken’s Prince Ali in high speed. It’s so funny! 😆

Sega TV Aladdin Megadrive advert

I was a Nintendo boy, still am, in the early 1990’s. Sega’s ad campaign for their Genesis console was known as SEGA TV. Until today the whole SEGA TV ads where strange to me. You imagine I less I cared for the Sega then.

Upon watching the commerical on YouTube, found looking for the latest Aladdin videos on the site, my first thoughts when seeing the video where.

  • Did SEGA had their own TV channel?
  • man this is awful, corny, psycho garbage
  • Next I wondered

  • how could any normal kid fall for such stupidity?

I mean ok so the SEGA brand is mentioned but that fat guy with the annoying voice eats up all the attention. I counted just 3 seconds game footage. That’s only 6% of the whole commercial.

Sega Aladdin VG clips

GamerDMS uploaded clips from the Sega Genesis Aladdin videogame. Considering the 16-bit graphics of that time the characters look great. Almost like they came straight out of the film. Actually, I think the the simple 2D Genesis Aladdin looks more true to the movie then, the advanced 3D Kingdom Hearts on a high-end video game system.

Brings me to the question, why didn’t Square Soft go for the traditional look of the Disney characters? Surely, the Playstation 2 can handle it. Well hopefully Disney produces a real 2D video game for the WII with their new game studio Fall Line.

Taipon posted a recording of his time trial in 14.20 minutes. I don’t believe it’s an accomplisment to finish the game in a short time. While skipping half the game. I played the Sega version last month. Up till the Cave of Wonders. Never made that far, those annoying bats always killed me.
