Deviant artist Spiriftwolf did a fun and very good looking Jasmine/Jafar cross with her wicked Iajah as henchman. The excellent coloring including the light-up scarab compliments the drawing. This is the third in a series the Tiana/Facilier and Ariel/Ursula ones are worth watching too.

Aladdin’s Jafar is guilty of treason, assault & battery and attempting murder, but who’s really counting when the “good guy”, Aladdin, is going around lying about his identity and stealing food from the marketplace (c’mon son, get a job!). The only thing Jafar is really guilty of is being a dreamer, like John Lennon singing Imagine. So he teaches himself the art of hypnosis and through research and careful planning, unlocks Agrabah’s greatest treasure, the genie’s lamp. That’s two lifetime achievements. In the end, ambition gets the best of him when he goes from bubbly sultan’s bald advisor to becoming the most anabolically ripped, planet juggling genie. Win or lose?

Strolling off Ebay I came across this rare Aladdin spinoff radio play in German. It’s callled JAGOS RÜCKKEHR and seems to be starring Iago. Although I’m not able to translate the title my gut tells me it’s like Return of Jafar, Iago switches sides from evil henchman to good sidekick.
It’s released on a music casssete or MC which was what MP3 is today a way to have portable music back in the 80′s. The walkman is like the Ipod of the 80′s.

I haven’t been to DeviantArt in a while so it about time I did look around for artwork worth highlighting.
First off a drawing of the robot dragon from the TV series episode “Dune Quixote”. Sadira placed a spell on Aladdin making him think he’s a knight who most rescue his princess, Sadira of course. Things go bad when Genie tried to undo the girl’s magic. In the second half of the episode big blue made this robot dragon with remote appear to be slayed by Aladdin. Genie brakes the remote and the thing goes heywire. Eventually things turn out right when dragon is blown up and Al returns to his normal self.
DKurt drew a few classic Jafar expressions, annoyed, evil grin, bored and shocked.
JaviDLuffy did a real sexy version of Princess Jasmine as a genie using vectors. Good coloring as well .

Wondering if there were any cosplayers made a nice Princess Jasmine costume I googled around but about anything that came where or already blogged or not worthy, IMO, and most blogged results linked back here to Streetrat. That might explain all the questions I’ve been getting by people wanting to know how I made certain elements from costumes instead of bothering to read further and follow the link to the source.

The girl on the right made a Disney Princess Jasmine costume it looks allot like Jasmine’s Disney Princess outfit 22. It’s very creative to think of a costume other then the movie outfit teal standard. I love the fabric, pattern and colors a shame from the skin colored thing that holds the top up. Maybe she redid it this year I’ll keep an eye open to see if she was photographed anywhere else.

Anyway there’s more in life then pretty princesses. We have our title hero but are honest there’s so much that can be done with his regular clothing. I believe the guy below shows how a nice Aladdin costume could look like. I like the patch and belt to bad about the sandals but I guess you can’t expect people to walk bare feet outside. Enter the great Jafar. A cosplayer did what it appears to be Jafar in his red attire from Return of Jafar with his lady who might be Jasmine in her scrooge of the desert outfit from the TV series episode Forget Me Lots where she joined the side of evil while having amnesia. Otherwise the costume slightly resembles black Jas doll attire that came out in ’99 or 2000 I believe. Or some other random anime-like character that matches nicely with the Disney costume I don’t know.
Note: To be clear, I am not the designer of any of these costumes nor can I get you in contact with the artist who made them. I also have no way to get in contact with the cosplayers on the photos. Please click the photos to go the appropriate pages.

Super genie Jafar’s You’re Only Second Rate reached the eight spot in Nails105′s personal top 10 Animated Villian Songs over at RetroJunk. It stands proudly along the likes of Be Prepard, Gaston and Poor Unfortunate Souls. Have you seen Transformers: The Movie? Talk about a good villian Unicon is a planet-size robot that feeds on other planets. The Unicron score is so good. Watch it!
I’m suprised, Return of Jafar isn’t exactly Disney’s best sequel it compared to Aladdin it’s a shallow shell of course but set it besides Bambi 2 or Tarzan 2 RoJ lacks animaton quality and the story could’ve been better too. As for the songs they’re all forgettable except the love duet Forget About Me which quite nice.

Jaffar has a small cameo in the animated commercial for Disneylands Haloween 2009 celebrations. Quite cool!

Mike908 uploaded clips from the House of Mouse TV show that aired early 2000′s. It features the Aladdin cast but mostly Jafar and Iago. It’s kinda fun even though the show had much more potential plus the characters look off-model.

In this weeks Dutch Donald Duck comic magzine Rajah escapes the palace in search for princess Jasmine. Meanwhile the wizard Jafar sees a chance to sieze power.
As far as I know this is second comic starring Rajah, the last time was in a Disney Princess magazine years ago. And while the TV series has over 80 episodes made not one featured Jasmine’s pet tiger.

Like it’s common with Disney films Aladdin’s most talented voice actors had a stage history before they where cast in voice charcters like Jasmine, Jafar or guest voice in TV shows like say Mirage. After their ‘voice gig’ they happily went on to do stage shows or on/off Broadway productions some even based on animated movies from Disney. So what’s up with Lea Salonga, Jonathan Freeman, Bebe Neuwirth and their fellow actors.
Lea is going to do Allegiance, it’s a musical reading about a story of love, loss and heroism during the Japanese American internment.”
Mr. Freeman is asked to play Roger DeBris in the Producers. A show that had The Lion King’s Timon voice Nathan Lane in the past as star.
Bebe Neuwirth is casted as Morticia Adams in the upcoming musical The Addams Family. She’s joined by the previous mentioned Nathan Lane as Gomez. The is rumored to replace The Little Mermaid after it stops in August 2009.
The LA production of that same show has Abis Mal’s voice actor Jason Alexander. Albeit in LA the show isn’t taking off as it’s Broadway big sister.
Iago’s voice Gilbert Gottfried with guest narrate The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Serpent Malcho lord of the rainforest was at the time voiced by Hector Elizondo. In 2009 he is part of the cast of the revival of 1976′s Sly Fox.
Former Star Fleet captain Janeway and voice of the Galafem warriors ruler Hippsodeth ms. Kate Mulgrew has her latest production Equus ended earlier this year and just finished play diva Maria Callas in Master Class.
I think that’s about it for the bigger guest actors on Aladdin. The rest is mostly voice actors with a long long resume or TV and film actors. Enough matrial to write a seprate article sometime.
