John Alvin passed away last week, he was 59. The site didn’t mention the couse of death the article only mentioned that it was unexpected.

John Alvin was one of those unsong heroes that contributed to Aladdin’s success. As a grapich designer Mr. Alvin designed movie posters for boxoffice hits Blade Runner, E.T., Gremlins, The Color Purple, The Goonies, Hook and Star Wars.
For Aladdin John Alvin painted the advance poste of hands, the lamp rubbed by Aladdin’s hands in a dark setting. Also from his hand is the Japanese poster showing Aladdin and Jasmine with a cresent moon. See below
Johnalvinart.com has concept art of a third poster where we see Aladdin and Jasmine riding carpet in an action pose. In the final version genie was dropped just like in the cresent moon poster.

For Disney John Alvin designed posters for every animated feature since The Little Mermaid appeantly Jeffery Kazenberg was a fan of his work because many of John’s designed clicked with Jeffery. In adition he made Limited Editions upon request by a movie studio.
Examples of his work fo Disney are Bittersweet Embrace from Beauty and the Beast, Someday from Cinderalla and Fairest in the land from Snow White.
