Princess Jasmine makes her appearence in Sofia the First

Jas will make her royal appearance on June 14, 2013 in the Disney Princess TV series Sofia the First. Can’t say I’m excited about how her design is convered to CG. As someone from Ulimate Disney put it

“I think Jasmine looks a lot like her Kingdom Hearts counterpart here ?”

The problem is this isn’t a video game but a TV show where the character is supposed to move and act.
Jas is of course voiced by Linda Larkin with the singing parts done by Lea Salonga

The announcement made me try to remember the last time Jasmine appeared on a Disney TV show. To my surprise I came to the conclusion that it had to be on Disney’s House of Mouse. As you might remember the show stars Disney’s fab five & friends, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto etc. running a dinner theater where many Disney characters has cameos as guest stars. The last episode aired almost 10 years ago on October 24, 2003.

Courtney Reed Interview

Actress Courtney Reed, who played Princess Jasmine in the Aladdin Musical that ran in July kindly agreed to do an interview with The Aladdin Musical blog. Talking about her career and how the musical Jasmine in different then the animated Jasmine but still the same. As of half September no word has reached me on what’s in the future if Disney brings it to Broadway or a Tour. It’s known though that there are plans to do something with the concept but if the current cast will take part is any body’s guess

Courtney Reed sings “Call Me A Princess”

Actress Courtney Reed who will play Jasmine in Aladdin: The New Stage Musical preformed “Call Me A Princess” on New Day Northwest show. The song, as you may know, was written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken while the film was still in it’s early development. Intailly the creators visioned Jasmine as a bratty, obnoxious, spoiled, supervissail girl that only cared about herself and the wealth she lives in. I recall reading that someone, might be Jeffery Katzenberg, commented that it wouldn’t make sense that Aladdin, the boy with the golden heart, would fall for such a girl so her personallity was changed to the kind and loving Princess Jasmine we know and love. In the interview following the performance Courtney explains how the song is used in the musical, as means of scaring the suitors away though I have my doubts it would work. I mean Prince Achmed looks to me like the kind of guy that would like such a brat.
Also Jim Hil has something about Jonathan Freeman and how he ended up voicing Jafar.

Jasmine room coming up at WDW hotel

Through Aladdin Central comes (finally) some news that I think is worth posting. No idea if it’s anything good or, as is the case with most merchandise that Disney trows at us, do it arabic/middle eastern style and stick a standard Jasmine with bird on everything from cussions to badrobes. Other then this I haven’t read any news like on the musical whose premiere date is coming closer and closer let alone a blu-ray release.

Walt Disney World is converting 512 rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort into princess-themed rooms complete with ornate beds, fiber-optic special effects and gold and crystal accents, according to the Disney Parks Blog. The rooms will be marketed as places the Disney princesses themselves have stayed, from Princess Tiana of “The Princess and the Frog” to Belle of “Beauty and the Beast” to Jasmine of “Aladdin.”

The rooms, scheduled to open in March 2012, are the latest in Disney’s specialty room offerings, which also include pirate-themed guest rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. The popularity of those rooms allows Walt Disney World to command a $30-a-night premium for them, the Orlando Sentinel reports
